We know it'll happen eventually. Matt Smith's time as The Doctor will come to an end, and the eccentric man with the bow-tie will change his face once more, allowing another actor to take on the role of everyone's favorite Time-Traveling Alien.
But will the next Doctor be a hobbit?
Before you fly off to your favorite message boards and start raving about Elijah Wood being Number Twelve, let me explain.
Dominic Monaghan, who has played in the TV show LOST (as Charlie Pace) and in the movie The Lord of the Rings (as the hobbit Merry), has expressed interest in playing the role of the Doctor.
Speaking in an interview with MTV Geek, Monagahn said "I’d like to play Doctor Who. I think I could do a pretty good effort…
"I grew up with Sylvester McCoy and Peter Davison and those type of
Doctors. I always found them to be relatively quirky, but also
possessing a curiosity and a drive and need to understand things. I
relate to aspects of that and have always wanted to have a crack at
playing the Doctor."
"If I was young enough and it ever became available I think I’d like to give it a go."
As he had worked with Peter Jackson (Director of The Lord of the Rings) on the The Lord of the Rings, he also spoke about his thoughts on Peter Jackson directing an episode of Doctor Who.
“I don’t think he could go and direct something like Doctor Who without
it being a huge piece of event television. He’s certainly a fan of the
show and he knows his stuff.”
