At yesterday's BBC Drama conference, alongside the announcement that the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special would be broadcast in 3D, BBC Head of Drama Commissioning Ben Stephenson also confirmed that there would be a Doctor Who Christmas Special this December (presumably on Christmas Day). Stephenson said:
Series 7: Part 2 - 30 March
50th Anniversary Special - 23 November
Christmas Special - December
Series 8 will presumably follow in spring 2014 at the earliest.
“There will be lots of aliens and Daleks and things like that – or maybe there won't. There are many different things to take into account and we will also have a Christmas special after that and it all connects. Or maybe it doesn't. There’s lots to work out.”So, this also confirms (backed up by the announcement of 13-part fantasy Atlantis being commissioned for Saturday nights this autumn in the family slot) that the episodes this year will be as follows:
Series 7: Part 2 - 30 March
50th Anniversary Special - 23 November
Christmas Special - December
Series 8 will presumably follow in spring 2014 at the earliest.
