Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary Special To Be Broadcast in 3D (And In Cinemas?)

Yes, it has finally happened. In today's BBC Drama conference, BBC Controller of Drama Commissioning Ben Stephenson announced that the Doctor Who 50th anniversary Special will be broadcast in 3D.

This move will be the second for a BBC drama after Christmas comedy Mr Stink. Stephenson has this to say about the announcement:
‘As part of the BBC's blockbuster celebrations to mark the Doctor turning 50, fans will be able to see the Time Lord and his adventures like never before - in 3D!’
Showrunner Steven Moffat also said:
‘It's about time. Technology has finally caught up with Doctor Who and your television is now bigger on the inside. A whole new dimension of adventure for the Doctor to explore.’
The Guardian is also reporting that the episode will be shown in 3D in select cinemas in special screenings - this has not been officially confirmed, however.
