Ben Wheatley To Direct Two Doctor Who Episodes

It has been announced that award-winning director Ben Wheatley, whose credits include the 2011 thriller Kill List and 2012's Sightseers, will be directing the first two episodes of Doctor Who's Series 8 run.

Wheatley told Screen Daily:
"I am very excited and honoured to be asked to direct the first two episodes of the new series of Doctor Who. I've been a fan since childhood (Tom Baker is my Doctor if you are asking). I've been watching the current run of Doctor Who with my son and have discovered it all over again. The work that has been done is amazing."
Series 8 will feature Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor. On working with the new Capaldi, Wheatley said:
"I'm really looking forward to working with Peter Capaldi and finding out where Steven Moffat is planning to take the new Doctor."
Wheatley has a connection with Doctor Who, having recently directed Reece Shearsmith - who will be portraying Patrick Troughton in the 50th anniversary drama biopic An Adventure in Space and Time - in the psychadelic cival-war film A Field In England.
