Of course, the 50th anniversary special itself, The Day of the Doctor, airs tonight - and for one time only, it's a global party as TV networks and cinemas in over 80 countries join together to show the episode at the same time. Remember - it starts at 7.50pm GMT and is 75 minutes long. The synopsis for the special is as follows:
The Doctors embark on their greatest adventure in this 50th anniversary special. In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s own dangerous past comes back to haunt him.In the UK, you can join Doctor Who Live: The Afterparty straight after the episode concludes at 9.05pm on BBC Three. After the episode itself, stay tuned to The Gallifrey Times for a discussion, behind-the-scenes materials, a poll and, if we're lucky, some news on the Christmas Special.
It doesn't stop here though - after the anniversary comes the death of the Eleventh Doctor and the birth of the Twelfth Doctor in this year's Christmas Special, The Something of the Doctor (title unconfirmed). We'll be giving the site a festive new look and counting down to Christmas with reviews of all the Christmas Specials.
But for now, pour a glass of fizzy drink and toast fifty years of Doctor Who.
