UPDATE Doctor Who: The Time of the Doctor Broadcast Time Confirmed

UPDATE: BBC America have confirmed that The Time of the Doctor will air on Christmas Day at 9/8C - it will not be simulcast.

The BBC have announced the air time for the Christmas Special and Matt Smith's final episode, The Time of the Doctor.

The special will air on Christmas Day at 7.30pm on BBC One. It will last for 60 minutes, and will conclude at 8.30pm That's a far later slot than The Snowmen's 5.15 slot last year, and shows a strong vote of confidence from the BBC.

The synopsis is as follows:
Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars. And amongst them – the Doctor. Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe. 
Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss' Sherlock will also return on New Year's Day at 9pm on BBC One with The Empty Hearse.
