The feature-length opening episode, Deep Breath, will screen at St David's Hall on August 7th, just over two weeks ahead of its television debut on August 23rd. The première will form part of a lunchtime red carpet event during which new Doctor Peter Capaldi and co-star Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald) will make appearances together with the show's lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat.
BBC Wales Director Rhodri Talfan Davies said:
“Doctor Who is getting even bigger and even better - and it's a real thrill that the show's fans here in Wales will be the very first to see the new Doctor at this very special première screening. Doctor Who has been made in Wales for almost ten years - and we're so proud of its worldwide success.”Cabinet Member for Community Development, Co-operatives and Social Enterprise, Cllr Peter Bradbury, said:
“We are delighted that St David's Hall, the National Concert Hall of Wales will be the host venue for this exciting worldwide première. The launch of the Doctor Who World tour will be a fantastic event in our city and no doubt a highlight on our cultural calendar. We look forward to welcoming fans from across Europe to enjoy the hospitality of St David's Hall.”Following the Cardiff première, Doctor Who: The World Tour (read more here) will then visit London before taking in five more cities internationally, during which Capaldi, Coleman and Moffat will undertake a series of fan engagements and media events as part of a campaign to publicise the show globally.
