Brian Blessed Turned Down Doctor Who

Gordon's alive! Had to be done, now let's move on.

Yes, the great British icon Brian Blessed was once offered a role in Doctor Who. Not as King Yrcanos. THE role. As The Doctor. Let that sink in. Reportedly, Mr Blessed was offered the role very early in a career ranging from stage to film, remembered best amongst the sci-fi fandom as Prince Vultan in Flash Gordon.

He states that:
''After I was in Z Cars, the head of BBC serials took me aside and said, ‘We’re thinking of having a young Doctor Who and we’d like to cast you’. But it clashed with other things''.
It was a mere schedule issue that denied that iconic booming voice the helm in the TARDIS. We got a taste during Colin Baker's era in Mindwarp, but I do not believe I am the only one wanting to hear that baritone raging through the time vortex towards a Dalek fleet.
