Fans have long discussed the idea of a crossover between the popular British television programmes Sherlock and Doctor Who, but it has never been more than a pipe-dream for most. At the premiere of Doctor Who series 8 in
yesterday, Steven Moffat reveals that he actually considered the idea!
Moffat says that it was his fellow writers and the show’s stars that opposed the idea, not him.
"Go speak to Cumberbatch, Freeman, Gatiss andAvid fanboy that he is, this should come as no surprise to fans of both shows. But would this idea actually work on screen? Perhaps it’s better left to the realm of fan fiction. Moffat seems to agree, continuing:
? They're all in the way. I'm not the killjoy, it's that lot. Vertue, OK
Look I'm going to come clean on this: I would."
"Mark [Gatiss]'s got a point when he says that however good you imagine it, it would be better in your imagination than it would be if the two grand old egotists actually met. They'd just both go off in opposite corners and sulk."
Doctor Who returns to screens on Saturday, 23 August. Sherlock begins filming a special episode in January 2015, with series 4 filming later in the year.
