Reece Shearsmith To Join Doctor Who Series 9

The BBC have announced Reece Shearsmith as the latest guest star in the upcoming ninth series of Doctor Who. The actor, comedian and award winning writer will join Peter Capaldi (The Doctor) and Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald) on BBC One this September.

Viewers may recognise Reece from his role as Patrick Troughton in An Adventure in Space and Time, a docu-drama about the initial creation of Doctor Who. His exciting return to the Doctor Who universe will take him into an adventure written by Mark Gatiss, directed by Justin Molotnikov and produced by Nikki Wilson.

Reece commented enthusiastically about his upcoming role in the hit show:
"I am absolutely thrilled to be filming Doctor Who as Mark Gatiss has written a fantastic role for me in a very scary episode. It has been so exciting to be a part of a very singular episode - which, I can say with authority will be unlike any previous episode of Doctor Who. It's a joy to play a part in the show - certainly a badge of honour."
Mark Gatiss, writer of the episode, also added his excitement:
"I'm delighted to be writing again for Peter and Jenna's brilliant TARDIS team and very excited about this particular story. It's been brewing in the dark recesses of my mind for a while now! I'm also chuffed to bits to finally welcome my old friend Reece Shearsmith onto the show. He's been badgering me for ten years!"
The BBC have also released a short interview clip with Reece, which can be viewed below:

Alongside Reece, the upcoming episode will also star Elaine Tan (Eastenders, Entourage), Neet Mohan (All in Good Time, Desert Dancer), Bethany Black (Cucumber, Banana) and Paul Courtenay Hyu (Dalziel and Pascoe, Coronation Street).

Other guest stars announced for the new series include Michelle Gomez reprising her role as Missy, Maisie Williams, Rufus Hound, Rebecca Front and Ingrid Oliver reprising her role as Osgood.

Doctor Who series 9 is launching on Saturday 19th September and will no doubt continue to raise the bar as one of the BBC's most highly regarded and beloved shows. Are you excited for the new cast announcement? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section!
