Doctor Who: Matt Lucas Returns For Series 10

The BBC has today revealed that Matt Lucas will be returning to Doctor Who for the show's tenth series.

The comedian will be reprising his role as Nardole from 2015's Christmas special The Husbands of River Song, and is due to join Peter Capaldi and new companion Pearl Mackie when filming for Series 10 begins next week.

Matt Lucas said of his return:
"I'm chuffed to bits that Nardole is returning to the TARDIS for some more adventures. I loved acting with Peter and I'm excited to work with Pearl."
Doctor Who's executive producer and lead writer, Steven Moffat, said:
"Delighted and slightly amazed to be welcoming Matt Lucas back on to the TARDIS - and this time it's not just for Christmas, he's sticking around. One of the greatest comedy talents on planet Earth is being unleashed on all of time and space."
In other casting news actress Stephanie Hyam will play a guest role in the new series. Hyam has previously appeared as Lily Clarke in Jekyll & Hyde, as well as Peaky Blinders, Sherlock and Murdered By My Boyfriend.

Several writers have also been confirmed for Series 10. Making their return to the show are Sarah Dollard (Face The Raven) and Frank Cottrell-Boyce (In The Forest Of The Night), whilst Doctor Foster's Mike Bartlett will make his Doctor Who writing debut.

The opening episode of Doctor Who Series 10 begins filming in Cardiff from next week (Monday 20th June), written by Steven Moffat, executive produced by Brian Minchin, produced by Peter Bennett and directed by Lawrence Gough.

Doctor Who will return with a Christmas special this year before Series 10 airs in 2017.
